Day 2 Mt.Fuji - Tokyo
If your main purpose of travel is to see Mt.Fuji, it is the most recommended 2 day 1 night driving route.
You can stay near Lake Kawaguchiko(河口湖) where is one of the Fuji five lakes and Mt.Fuji from there is rally magnificent. Except from middle of July to middle of September, you can drive up to Mt.Fuji 5th station by yourself. It is about 100 km from center of Tokyo and easy to drive.
However, honestly speaking, 2D1N is too short to visit this area and you need to skip some nice sightseeing spots. If you have time, it is highly recommended to choose longer routes.

◆Day1 Tokyo to Mt.Fuji(Lake Kawaguchiko)

This driving route is round trip and you can rent and return a car at Tokyo.

[Description and Highlights]
Most of the highlights are located around Mt.Fuji and Fuji five lakes(富士五湖). It is recommended to take highway "CHUO EXPWY" from Tokyo to "Kawaguchiko IC". It takes about 2 hours. Mt.Arakura Sengen Park is very famous observatory where you can see Mt.Fuji and The Five-Storied Pagoda. For lunch, there are local Udon noodle called "Hoto(ほうとう)", BBQ and very tasty Hamburger shops.
After lunch, you can visit "Kawaguchiko Music Forest" to see and listen world-class collection of automatic musical instruments and rose garden.
If you have time, it is also recommended to visit wind cave and ice cave near lake Saiko(西湖). When you travel in autumn, there are also great spot to see autumn colored leaves too.

It is recommended to stay Fujikawaguchiko town(富士河口湖町) near lake Kawaguchiko.
If the Fujikagwaguchiko area is crowded, you also can consider to stay Yamanakako village(山中湖村) near lake Yamanaka which is also one of Fuji five lakes.
Both area have western style hotels and Jpanese style inn called "Ryokan(旅館)"which have Onsen(Hot spring) facility and provide both dinner and breakfast. You also can choose plan without meals but there are not many restaurant around these Ryokan and it is recommended to choose plan with meals.
◆Day2 Mt.Fuji(Lake Kawaguchiko) to Tokyo
[Description and Highlights]
2nd day, let's drive up to Fuji Subaru Line to Mt.Fuji 5th station(Except from middle of July to middle of September) where is located at 2,305m above sea level. Due to high altitude, the temperature there is about 20 degree lower than Tokyo and better to bring some warm cloths.
Once you drive back from Mt.Fuji, let's drive to Lake Yamanakako direction to visit Oshino Hakkakkai. It is small charming village which has many beautiful sporing ponds. There are also traditional old Japanese houses.
Before coming back to Tokyo, you can visit visit Mt.Kachikachi Ropeway and say goodbye to Mt.Fuji.
